HYPNOTHERAPY FOR DRUG ADDICTION
Many times I’ve been asked if I can help people quit the addiction to drugs with Hypnotherapy. With the recent news of model Presley Gerber passing from an overdose, this is something that I know many people struggle with regardless of social status. Can Hypnosis help someone quit drugs? The answer is a little complex as it really depends on the case. For one, I stay away from cases where people are physically addicted to drugs. When there’s a dependency, people should go through a detox program at a rehab or medical facility. There are cases when Hypnosis can be used as an adjunct treatment.
I think Hypnosis can only be used as a stand-alone treatment ONLY when the use of drugs is occasional. I have helped people over the years who used to do drugs on weekends and never consumed a high amount. I think for some it can be a way to escape reality, cope with stress and have fun. But something that starts as a way to try something new and experience feelings that people wouldn’t be ablet to experience otherwise, can quickly turn into a nightmare. I help people get to the root cause of their use of drugs, which can be similar to the use of alcohol in the sense that it’s a coping mechanism to numb unpleasant feelings and emotional or physical pain. Many unresolved issues from childhood and past experiences can be triggers for addictions and bad habits.
It is important that anyone I work with knows exactly why they want to quit and do it for themselves. As we know, unfortunately we can help someone quit drugs but no one can make them quit if they don’t want to. Part of the process I do includes healing past experiences, increasing emotional intelligence, boosting self-esteem and dealing with stress and life challenges in healthier more constructive ways.
