I have been recently asked if I sell my Hypnosis or Life coaching services through groupons. Groupons are discounted deals for anything from goods to services or different kids. I have bought groupons in the past. Honestly, who hasn’t? they are very enticing with their low prices even if they come with their share of restrictions and expiry date. I have bought groupons for haircuts, restaurants and events. Have I gone back to any of these businesses? No, I haven’t. I have learned that you get what you pay for since many of these businesses are struggling and desperate to get some cash flowing their way. I also felt rushed, these businesses sell thousands of groupons sometimes that they have to work on the clock. And when they get a client who’s paying regular rate, they will prioritize that client over you. And also, how motivated can they feel to give the client the best service if have sold a thousand groupons and have to work long hours to get very little compensation?

While I have never sold my services on Groupon, I once had a deal for my digital mp3 hypnosis audios on another discounts website. I did well but almost none of those people called to inquiry about sessions and only a few bought a couple of more hypnosis audios. The truth is that most people want something really cheap and probably won’t be willing to pay regular price after that. And very few of them will become regular customers. The sad part is that these discount websites like groupon, don’t really care about small businesses but how to get maximum dollar for your services. When I sold my Hypnosis audios they told me I had to offer an 80-90 percent discount or they wouldn’t work with me.

I know about a company that sells Hypnosis services on Groupon very cheap, 15 dollars a session or something like that. Now keep in mind that this business does not keep the 15 dollars, but Groupon takes about 50 percent which leaves the company with 7 bucks per customer minus expenses, employee wages,etc. These are basically designed to get people through the door. Then, they are offered packages that cost from 5 to 10 thousand dollars for hypnosis sessions twice a week for 6 months to a year. It seems similar to what you experience in a time share selling pitch, and once you enjoyed whatever they offer, they send their sales man to close the deal, if you are strong enough and determined you will leave with your wallet intact. There are cases when a groupon might be a good idea,  if you buy it just to try it and you want to pay close to nothing, it might be a good choice, or if you are can afford thousands of dollars up front for follow up sessions.

I also know that some of these places offer guarantees, which means that if you don’t get the results you wanted you can keep coming back for as long as you want. But who would want to waste even more time? I follow the code of ethics of the National Guild of Hypnotists which tells members not to offer guarantees as there are other factors that influence results. After all, doctors and psychologists don’t guarantee, why should Hypnotists?

So instead of sharing profits with another company and booking thousands of customers, I prefer to work with clients who are motivated to change and  I know I can help and give amazing service to. I will be offering discounts on my blog and Facebook page from now on. So, stay tuned!
